Library Renovation Update
Link access:
–work is scheduled to begin on the new south stair tower Monday, May 12, at which time access to the east door of the link between the library and CWS will be unavailable. Access between the buildings will be maintained, but traffic from the Summit parking lot to the campus side will not be possible.
–patrons are directed to follow the sidewalk around the south side of the Center for Western Studies and turn back north for access to the library.

Two-week closure:
–to make our aggressive renovation schedule work, all library services will be provided from the 1980 building (south library) during the summer. The 1954 building is scheduled to be completed in August. The staff must vacate the 1954 building in the two-week window between the end of spring semester and the beginning of the first summer session. As a result, the entire library will not be open for patrons from Tuesday, May 27 – Friday, June 6.
The library staff will be working, but primarily moving and setting up temporary quarters. During this period we expect to be without telephone, Internet, and power (probably water and AC, as well) at various times.
Street Closing
–from Tuesday, May 27 until Friday, August 22, Summit Ave will <be closed between 29th and 31st streets to provide construction parking and staging space. Access to the Madsen lot will be maintained.

On Friday, April 18th, Augustana College celebrated the Blessing of Renovation on the steps of the Mikkelsen Library. After the blessing, a reception was held in the reading area adjacent to the north windows.

Thank you to President Oliver, Rev. Paul Rhode, Dr. William Swart, Ronelle Thompson, Collin Taphorn, Kate Ahlers, and the Augustana Brass Choir for their participation in this event. Thank you also to all those whose gifts have made this renovation a reality.
Soli Deo Gloria!

Weather permitting, work will begin to excavate and waterproof the northeast corner of the library on Monday, April 7.
The north sidewalk will be unavailable throughout this process. Since the excavation will likely result in the walk’s destruction, the construction fence will remain in place during the summer until the renovation of the 1954 part of the library is complete.

Access to the library from the east (Summit) parking lot will be directed through the link between the library and Center for Western Studies. After 6pm M-F and on Saturday & Sunday, students & visitors to the library may use the link to “pass through” to the campus side of the library and enter the library through the main entrance.

Over spring break, workers removed the linoleum from the upper level balcony (Govt. Docs and conference rooms) area. We like the “industrial” look for spring.
