Did the architects provide any information as to the new renovation’s effect on the environment? To rephrase, the GSC project will most likely be LEED certified, has the library put any consideration into this?
Thanks

The library project will be green, but not technically LEED certified. The entire project team has committed to choosing environment-friendly practices for the work being done. We are fortunate to have two key people working on the renovation project who are LEED certified. One of the architects from TSP and the project manager from Henry Carlson Co. have both been recently certified and are being very helpful in keeping the project as green as possible. The design incorporates use of natural light as well as natural and recycled materials. Since it is a renovation we are consciously reusing existing materials as well as making sure discarded material is sent to recycling or agencies who reuse. The LEED certification process itself has become controversial because of the cost and red tape involved. An article on this topic can be found on page one of the Chronicle of Higher Education, April 11, 2008 (indexed in Lexis-Nexis).

Thank you, just the answer I was looking for. I’m glad to hear that the library will be designed intelligently!
